Black + White

Last week I wrote about the return of the flannel, and why I'm particularly pumped about breaking those babies out of the closet again, but today I'm gonna attempt to class it up a notch. There's something about the Fall that inspires me to look more polished and a bit more put together, where as the Summer was all about keeping it casual and relaxed. And I don't know about you, but these cooler days feel like they're practically begging me to break the blazers out and re-introduce all things leather, and hey, the Dude abides... or the Dudette if you're not in to the whole brevity thing.

The Return of the Flannel

As the seasons shift and Fall begins to emerge there are a few things that I'm particularly pumped to break out of 'closet hibernation' - One of those things being my flannel shirts. That's right, I said shirtssss - As in plural. Flannel is a weaknesses of mine, and there's not much I can do about that. With just one touch my senses are calmed by it's soft, cozy wear-able texture. If I could line my walls in the stuff you'd most likely find me frequently stroking them, Get Him to The Greek-style {sans the "jeffrey", obvi}. Alas, I have several flannel shirts in my repertoire, and thanks to Urban Outfitters I added a new one yesterday. So instead of going 100% 90's grunge with this look, I opted for a slightly more polished approach... and I stress the word "slightly". Either way, the outfit felt very apropos as we segue from 'Summer vacation' into 'back to school'. Not that I'm going back to school, but you know what I mean. September days will always be reminiscent of back to school. Tell me I'm not alone on this one... Bueller? ... Bueller? ...

Weekend Wear: Labor Day - Part 1

Although I believe the fashion faux pas of yesteryear are dated and no longer truly apply to the fashion world of today, wearing white pantalones after Labor Day will always give me this little niggly feeling. Silly, I know. Who made up this rule anyhow?! Regardless, I'd like to take this opportunity, as it is the final week of August, to rock my crisp whites in all their glory over the next few days!

Wish List: Rag & Bone/A.L.C.

Have you seen the abundance of absolutely rad denim that Rag & Bone has lined up for Fall?! I'll be the first to admit that I have a denim problem. My denim drawer is overflowing, and I mean literally various pant legs are currently spewing out of it.  I am in no way in need of another pair, but of course that's the sensible side of me speaking, or shall I say writing. There are easily 4 or 5 Rag & Bone pairs that I'd love and I mean loooouuuvvrre to indulge in, but will I? Well, you can be certain to find this pair of Raja Midnight's in my repertoire very soon!

Above is how I would rock them... Keeping it dark with that incredible black leather jacket and a pair of black Rag & Bone Harrow boots {because the subtle detail makes them the perfect everyday casual ankle boot}, and adding a few seriously cool, utilitarian looking A.L.C. pieces, one of Rag & Bone's Beach Tees {because they feel simply divine and I love the added texture}, some ivory frames and you are good to go! Ah, man. Self control just went right out the window.

Butterfly Days

A beautiful August day - Not too warm with just the right amount of breeze. Butterflies felt appropriate for lazing around in the late Summer sun.

Sparkle Motion

Daytime sparkles and sequins bring a bit of fun flare to an everyday, ordinary ensemble don'tcha think {I don't know, are you supposed to throw the apostrophe in there}? And for me, the key to keeping this look daytime appropriate is to tone down the sparkles with some casual classics. I opted for neutral tones today, but there's nothing wrong with adding a splash of color to the combination if you're feeling extra sassy! HEYO!

Light as a Feather

When in Napa my husband and I took some time to stroll through the adorably tiny town of St. Helene. We were three wine tastings deep and found ourselves moseying in and out of each store aimlessly, just looking to soak it all in... UNTIL my husband exclaimed--
"Hey babe! Check these out."
He knows very well that I have a serious soft spot in my heart for jewelry {of all kinds and all styles}, but he could have been pointing to a pair of cast iron bookends for all I knew.

I'd like to think that I waltzed over to him though it was probably more like stumbled, and once I reached the case he was standing beside my eyes widened and a broad smile stretched across my face.
He was pointing at a pair of beautiful, long, exotic feather earrings by Sonia Lub.
There was a beautiful variety of colors, but with my long dark hair we both agreed that feathers of a lighter color would be best.
I can't help but squeal each time I see these lovely earrings on my dresser.
They are so fun and free - I love them!

The Empire

It was the mid 90's when Empire Records came out, and I'm fairly certain that it instantly inspired many a teen to find a job working in a record store - I know I certainly wanted to!! Empire Records literally has it all - Fun, friends, fights, teen angst and drama, dancing and seriously rad-tastic music.
Have you seen it? If not, you totally should - It's one of those flicks I can watch any day, any time, and from any part {beginning, middle or end} and I love every second of it!

And it happens to be one of my favorite film endings

My Cory inspired outfit...

Yellow Fever

Picture this: A tall glass of freshly squeezed lemonade; A bunch of beautiful daffodils; An adorable set of newly hatched chicks... Yellow is one of the friendliest colors, in my opinion. Whether you're accessorizing with it or rocking it in full force with a dress, top, pant or skirt, you can't go wrong with this warm and inherently cheerful color!

Wearing your heart on your sleeve - Literally!

There's something about clothing with hearts on it that I find undeniably irresistible! Whether I spot it in a store's window, online, or on someone walking down the street it always makes my head turn. Maybe it's because the idea transports me back to my pre-teens when hearts reigned supreme in my world - Who knows. Either way, I've found myself gravitating towards tops like the one photographed here. Hearts - Check! Comfort - Check! With Valentine's Day around the corner what better time to rock heart adorned clothing? The blouse is Equipment from shopbop.com, and I simply can't say enough good things about Equipment blouses. They are insanely comfortable, and great for literally every occasion. They feel so good you'll be tempted to sleep in them!

Check out heart adorned awesomeness here:
